museum collaboration
Nordbor — Nordiska museet 2024 to present
Nordbor (Nordic Life) is a new permanent exhibition at Nordiska museet in Stockholm. The exhibition explores 500 years of Nordic Life including people of the Nordic’s relationship to nature.
My contribution involves a short film in which I talk to journalist and project manager for digital collections Jörgen Löwenfeldt to discuss one dilemma facing our collective future in the Nordics - how so-called “natural forests” are threatened by industry and their importance beyond being just an economic resource.
The film was produced by exhibition producer Hanna Leijon.
Arktis — Nordiska museet 2019 to present
During my PhD I was intern and contributing researcher for the exhibition The Arctic - while the ice is melting at Nordiska museet. I collaborated with exhibition producer Jon Johansson and filmmaker Camilla Andersen to make a short film about Arjeplog. The film explores one of the area’s dominant local industries, car testing, in which locals prepare ice tracks for engineers to test new car models. The film focusses upon the work behind this industry in relation to ice knowledge, climate, and local landscape. Some of my analogue photography is also shown in the exhibition.
I was also on the editorial board for the accompanying catalogue Arktiska spår: natur och kultur i rörelse and contributed a short piece exploring landscape and tracks.
I have written about this collaboration in the book Beyond Academic Publics, edited by Anna Kaun and Julia Velkova, which can be found here.
Bilder från Arjeplog — Silvermuseet 2018
During my PhD fieldwork I used the exhibition space as a key part of my methodology, inviting locals to come to Silvermuseet in Arjeplog, view my photographs of their home landscapes and offer critical feedback. This was fundamental in understanding how they viewed place as well as the aesthetics of their home, in contrast to how I saw it as an outsider.
